Welcome to version 2.3.3 e of the freeware computer program "Using What Is" with Byron Katie's "The Work" created by Moritz Boerner.

If it works well on your computer, you can copy it and give it to friends - for non-commercial purposes only, of course. The copyright of the source code belongs to the author, parts of the text are taken from Byron Katie's "The Little Blue Book". She allows the copying of her texts too if it is not for commercial purposes.

Look at http://www.ThePowerOfInnerTruth.com -> Downloads for the latest version. Write to me, if you have problems with the program, want to thank me or report bugs: BoernerMedia@onlinehome.de.

I have spent thousands of hours with this program and lots of money for the software I had to use - donations are welcome. Use Paypal and my email address.

Windows:

The CD-ROM should autostart, if not, click at "Start" resp. "Start.exe" and look at the intro. (Stop the intro and proceed by clicking or pushing any key.) At the end of the intro you can EXIT or CONTINUE to run the program directly from CD-ROM.

If you have downloaded the program from the internet, double-click the "setup.exe".

The installer "setup.exe" is just a normal installer. It asks you where to put the program. It will not change anything on your system nor does it write anything into the registry.

An uninstaller is created automatically, it will erase everything connected to the program without leaving tracks. There is no need to restart after deinstallation.

If the downloading does not work or the installer does not work, try downloading "FullPackage.zip" from http://www.ThePowerOfInnerTruth.com -> Downloads.

Windows and Macintosh:

On both platforms the program also runs from CD-ROM, no installation is needed.

Click twice on "Using What Is" resp. "Using What Is.exe"

Quit (Windows): press ESC or CTRL + q or ALT-F4 or close the window.

Quit (Macintosh): press ESC or Command - q, ALT-F4 (sorry - closing the window doesn't work.)

Start: Point at the buttons and you will see what they mean below. Choose by clicking.

You can press ENTER alternatively to clicking on CONTINUE at any time.

The program will remember your configuration throughout the session.

After clicking on CONTINUE enter the culprit (and just that!).

After another click on CONTINUE enter four sentences, judgments and thoughts about this "culprit".

If you have no idea what to write, you can click on "Give me an example" or "Give me a suggestion" and the program will make some suggestions.

Everything else should be self-explaining.

You don't have to enter sentences in all fields, one at a time is enough.

By pressing "Give me an example" you get suggestions which you can alter as you like. Always only one suggestion is possible (for the actual field).

You can exit a session and start a new one at any time by pressing CTRL-n (on the Mac: Command-n) or pushing the button "NEW" - if you had a session in progress, of course your input so far will be lost.

If you use the left arrow, you can go back through your piece.

Attention: If you go back beyond the first question "Is It true" or "In whose power is that", what you have typed will be lost.

"Number 6":

The turnaround to "Number 6" will be invoked automatically after you have examined the four sentences.

It is not printable! If you want to save or print your session, you should do so now, since the work in memory will be trashed after leaving this screen.

If you click on "Number 6" again, you can do that particular turnaround on the other sentences you have entered, too.

By the way: you can do the turnaround to "Number 6" at any time in between a session. Just choose it from the menu.

Make notes - remember sentences

You can write down a sentence at any time:

Choose the "Note"-menu and write what you want to examine at a later time into the fields.

The button "From clipboard" pastes the contents of the clipboard into the field. Only one sentence at a time is pasted!

In the field below you will see what you saved earlier.

Press "Remember" to get the sentence into the field below. Press "save" to save the sentences for later use.

If you press "Examine", the saved sentences get ready for examination. Choose your configuration as done before. All of your sentences will be examined with that configuration. It is not possible to change it for individual sentences. If you don't change the configuration, the program's default will be used. (Another person, special, text input, should).

If you interrupted a session by working with sentences you put down, that session will be forgotten.

The "saved sentences" for later use have to be edited by hand. After working with them, erase them and press "Save".

Sentences you put down will not be erased when uninstalling the program. They are kept in a file in the system folder:

Windows: C:\Windows\Nutzen$.ini

Mac Classic: Start volume::Systemfolder::Preferences::Nutzen$.ini

Mac OS X: ../Librarys/Preferences/Nutzen$.ini

"Works" with text input:

The TAB key gets you to the next field, the ENTER key gets you to the next screen. Highlighted text can be overwritten. You may have to put the cursor into a field in order to write.

You can save or print at any time after a Work is done, but you will have to enter the last turnaround (e.g. press ENTER or click on CONTINUE).

Saving your "work":

Save as RTF: The saved documents can be opened with any text program and are formatted with questions in bold, which makes it easy to apply a different formatting later.

Save as HTML: Your "work" is formatted for a browser. The questions are in bold, the answers in italic.

If you have not chosen any formatting, the work will be saved in ASCII. Each question has two asterisks for better readability, (e.g. in the Yahoo-groups).

Pictures:

At certain points you are asked to close your eyes and feel how you felt, if... and on the screen some small pictures appear. Those are stored in the folder „JPGS“ and chosen randomly. You can put your own pictures there. If you don't like the effect, delete them and leave only one one-pixel-"jpg" or "bmp" there. Otherwise you will get an error.

Examples:

If you push the button "Examples" another window opens. Underneath the program keeps running and can be brought in front. I suggest to close the "Examples"-window by clicking "Back" after you read the example. I am waiting for more examples from users.

If you send me feedback, I can eliminate bugs and improve the program! In particular, I would love to have you send me your most interesting works in order to help others to do theirs.

This is the first non-beta version 2. Please report the bugs! Edit the text and send suggestions and reports.

Printing:

Should work fine on all machines. Mac OS X uses a Beta version of the XTRA "Printomatic Lite" which is not registered. Please send donation so I can register it!

Linux Users:

1. "rpm -i -v $PATH_TO_SUSE_INSTALL/wine-[VERSION].rpm"

2. start "winesetup" and follow the instructions..

3. Decompress FullPackage [VERSION].zip into a folder like  for example: cd $LINUX_PATH_TO_FAKEWINDOWS/Program\ Files/

unzip $DOWNLOAD_PATH/ FullPackage [VERSION].zip

4. "wine $LINUX_PATH_TO_FAKEWINDOWS/Programme/UsingWhatIs/Using\What\Is.exe" (for example.: " wine ./.wine/fake_windows/Program\ Files/ UsingWhatIs/Using\What\Is.exe" – spaces on the shell have to be masked with "\")

5. All war belongs on the computer screen…
